What is compete?
- Compete is a gaming platform which enables players to play competitive badminton and pickleball games with other equally skilled players powered by its matchmaking system. Players are objectively ranked and rated based on their performance in games with which each match is facilitated between equally skilled players. Our matchmaker takes care of your match from when you tell us what, when and where you want to play. We bring the players together, Book the courts and schedule the match. All you have to do is get there and SMASH!
How does compete work?
- Compete requires a few inputs from you to build a match session. Which includes:
- The game you want to play
- Singles or Doubles?
- The area you want to play in
- The timeslot you want to play in
- Solo or you want to smash with a friend?
- With this, The matchmaker finds the players who overlap with the preferences of your session and also fulfil the assessment that all the players being brought together are of equally playable distribution. (Read more: Rating and Ranking) After which, We find the court. All the players confirm, pay for the booking and off you go to play!
- Compete uses a democratised 100% confirmation system of scores from all the players at the end of the game for the match to be concluded. If any problem or complaint arises from any of the players, We’re right there to step in and resolve it!
- The rating and ranks from the conclusion of the games is calculated using compete’s proprietary ELO rating system and is reflected publicly through “Compete leaderboard” where you can see all the best players in the city. So, Smash on and become the best of the best!
How does the rating and ranking system work?
- Compete recognises that most games played today face these problems in the context of skill measurements:
- Equal distribution of skill between teams.
- In racket sports where the maximum team size can be 2, An unequal distribution of skill can take the game quality down for all the players by a factor of 40%.
- No objective quantification of skill for hobbyist players
- No way of finding players close to your skill calculated on objective parameters
- Compete solves the above problems by bringing objective measurement of a player’s skill (Rating) based on their performance in the matches played and matching players based on their rating.
- To learn more about the rating system, Please check: Rating and Ranking
What are timeouts and how do they work?
- When a player does not confirm or pay when prompted in the matchmaking process for the time given to do so, The session is timed out and the player is kicked out of the matchmaking process.
- Please remember based on what the stage your session is in, It could have repercussions for all the players in the match. This is explained below for each status:
- Waiting for invitation to be accepted → Time given: 1 hour for a player to accept the invitation
- No penalty, No other player affected
- In match confirmation → Time given: 10 mins
- No penalty, Other players would be pushed back in queue where they will (or will not) find other players to form a match. Hence, Try to confirm matches unless future commitments have sprung up.
- Location found and payment pending → Time given: 30 mins
- Penalty applied, The match will find other players in high priority and if no other players are found, The match would be cancelled. Any player who has paid will be refunded.
- Waiting for invitation to be accepted → Time given: 1 hour for a player to accept the invitation
Do I have control over which court I play?
- No, No player does. Based on the most common closest location for each player in the match and the availability of the courts for the preferences of the match, Compete will book the court.
